Pumpkin pie tasting

Last week in math we tasted pumpkin pie and graphed whether or not we liked it. We also graphed if we liked it with whipped cream or without! It was a lot of fun. Many of the students didn't think they would like it, but found that they did. (I think they liked the whipped cream the most) This week we are doing gingerbread man addition and we are working on numbers to 50.

Speaking of Gingerbread men, we will be making gingerbread houses on December 14th. More information will come home soon. The kids really love this activity. We will start our unit on Gingerbread men this week, I will read many different versions of the Gingerbread Boy story and we will compare them. It is a fun unit!

Thanksgiving book

We just finished our unit on Pilgrims, Indians and the first Thanksgiving feast. The students made a book about the Pilgrims trip to America and their encounter with the Indians. We learned many interesting facts and read many great books about the first Thanksgiving feast. Their books will come home on Monday. Please have them read their books to you. Maybe they can be part of your Thanksgiving celebration. They put a lot of time and effort into these books and I think they turned out great!

Mrs. Lessentien and I wish you all a Happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

Mass on November 23, 2010

Kindergarten will be attending a special Thanksgiving Mass on Tuesday. Please send a canned good for your child to bring up to the alter during Mass. If your child attends K-club that morning they will also attend Mass with us and will need to bring a canned good as well. Eamon Casey will represent the kindergarten class and will be reading what we are thankful for.

Science,conferences and Thanksgiving........

Today we had some Egg-cellent egg-speriments!!! Thank you parents for your participation, the kids really enjoy science day. I love it because with your help everyone can be hands on. It can be hectic, messy (and loud) and you all are so patient with the children. As we have found, sometimes our egg-speriments work and sometimes they don't. That's the beauty of science. But in the end we always have fun!

On a side note, At conferences someone asked me for another copy of the letter formation sheet. I wrote down that I needed to make a copy, but forgot to write down who needed it. Please send me a note if you need one. I apologize for the delay.

Thanksgiving is coming and we have started talking about the Pilgrims and Indians and their first feast. We will begin their Thanksgiving book Wednesday. It is one of my favorite activities. We have also been discussing what we are thankful for, we have so many thoughtful students in our class. You should be very proud of them. They are wise beyond their years!
Have a great evening!

Science Day... Egg-cellent egg-speriments!!!!

Tuesday is our third science day. It is one of my favorite science days of the year. We will be studying eggs. We test their strength, discuss their shells, and look inside. We also explore how to get an egg inside a bottle without squishing it. It is so egg-citing!!!

We have posted pictures on our science board outside our class from past science days. Stop by to see them.

Turkeys in disguise

By now you have seen the turkeys that have come home. Please have your child decorate their turkeys. Be as creative as you want using any materials you have at home. Please don't go out to buy anything special for this project. In the past children have decorated them to look like their favorite sports team, snowmen, Pumpkins, hello Kitty, Spiderman and even to look like themselves just to name a few. Have fun with this project. We will be hanging them in the hall so stop by to see them.
