January in kindergarten

Well we have been so busy this month in kindergarten.  We have learned  so many things about penguins. We made some penguins for our hall and wrote some great facts about them.  They will be up in the hallway soon. We finished our unit on snowmen by enjoying snowman soup! It was delicious. We learned about evaporation and what happens to snowmen when they evaporate.  In class we have a glass of water that we are watching evaporate, well... we are measuring how much evaporation takes place each day.  It's really exciting.   We also had art awareness and learned about Norman Rockwell. The students made their very own magazine covers of their favorite places. They look great.  On science day we explored  measurements, volume and estimated and guessed what weighed more apples, oranges or bananas. Tons of fun.  I really appreciate all the parental  involvement and participation.  Your children love having you in the class.
This week we will be learning about bears. Don't forget to send one in on Wednesday.  We will be graphing bears our bears on our large floor mat.We will be sorting and graphing gummy bears on Thursday. It is a delicious activity.
This week we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, We will attend Mass on Tuesday. There are many activities planned for the students this week.  Please watch the schedule that came home in the Thursday messenger for the daily activities and dress attire.
Thank you  everyone who came out in the bad weather to the open house.  I hope you had a chance to see the first grade classes.
Also thank you to everyone who donated wipes to our class.  We are in great shape now.  I will let you know if we need anymore.

Well, I hope that brings everyone up to date on what's been going on.

Happy New Year!!!

Welcome back everyone, on Monday we will resume classes after being off for  Christmas break.  I hope everyone had a restful break whether you traveled or stayed home.   I enjoyed my time off by spending it with my children and my grandson.
When we return to class we will continue working on addition and blending sounds to make words. Continue working on popcorn words at home and continue reading.
I am sending home the Buzz for this week on Monday, please look for it in your child's folder.  Also it is getting colder and if your child attends K-club please make sure to send snow pants, hats, gloves etc. in a separate bag, (not in their backpacks) so they can go outside for recess.  Also remember to send your child to school in gym shoes on gym day.  They will not be able to participate without them.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I will see you all on Monday!

Gingerbread houses and more

On Monday we will be decorating gingerbread house. It is tons of fun and the kids do a great job decorating them.  All week we read many different versions of the stories about the gingerbread boy.I have a few more to finish up this week.  We have had so many discussions about the characters in the stories and how they are similar and different from each other.  It has been a lot of fun.

On Wednesday the morning kindergarten class and the morning k-club students will be going to Mass.

Please make sure you empty your child's folder nightly , initial their calendars and look at all their papers.  A special schedule will be coming home for next week.  Please make sure to look at it daily, there are two days the a.m. students will be staying all day.  They will need a lunch and a drink.

Also a note about their homework.  Please sit with your child and explain the directions to them.  Please guide them through it.  Making sure they are using the writing lines appropriately. The more guidance we can give them at home and at school the better  off they will be.

We started addition this past week and will continue to review in class. Continue to work on popcorn words and numbers at home.

Thanks,  Have a great week!
